World press reacts to Dembélé's move to FC Barcelona

His native France and the country he's leaving, Germany, cover the story in depth - but news of the high-profile signing is also splashed across the sports pages all around the globe

Ousmane Dembélé was confirmed as the latest addition to the FC Barcelona squad on Friday and the story was headline news not only in Catalonia, but all around the world.

The three main Catalan sports dailies opened by proclaiming “Dembélé culer” (Mundo Deportivo) and “Dembélé: a striking signing” (Sport), while El Nou L'Esportiu referenced today's Alavés match by claiming that the team is "Waiting for Dembélé.

In Germany, the story was of special relevance after the player joined FCB from Borussia Dortmund. The leader in Bild Sports was that: “Démbéle is transferred to Barça” and Welt went with “Ousmane Dembélé leaves for FC Barcelona”.

In the player's home country of France, l’Équipe featured a bumper image of Dembélé on its front page with the words: “Welcome to the giants” while Le Parisien announced that: “Barça signing of Dembélé made official”.

Elsewhere in Europe, the British sports pages featured such headlines as “Barcelona sign Ousmane Dembélé from Borussia Dortmund” (The Guardian) and the very similar “Barcelona confirm signing of Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund” (The Mirror).

In Italy, Gazzetta dello Sport states that “Dembélé-Barça: it's official” and in the US, the NY Times titled its piece “Barcelona Gets Young Soccer Star Ousmane Dembélé in Huge Deal”.
