FC Barcelona and Rakuten, the Club’s main global sponsor, carried out a very special initiative moments before Wednesday night’s match between Barça and Villarreal at Camp Nou.

Before kickoff, the players wore shirts bearing the names of their mothers both on the front and on the back.

The purpose of this initiative was to celebrate the mothers of the world, coinciding with their day.

In Spain, Mother’s Day was celebrated last Sunday, while in many other parts of the world it is celebrated on the second weekend of May. Therefore, in between both days, Barça's match against Villarreal provided the perfect moment to celebrate everyone’s #TrueChampions, the chosen name for the campaign on social media.

The campaign was given visibility last Sunday on several of FC Barcelona's official Twitter accounts, when the squad list that was announced for El Clásico substituted the names of the players’ mothers for the players themselves.
