Leo Messi became the latest Barça player to be confirmed for this summer's World Cup in Russia, when Argentina announced the squad on Monday for this summer's tournament.

Already named to their respective national teams for the 2018 World Cup are: Brazil's Paulinho and Coutinho; France's Umtiti and Dembélé; and Spain's Andrés Iniesta, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Gerard Piqué

Messi is just one of 23 players called to duty on Monday by Argentina National Team manager Jorge Sampaoli. Argentina was the runner-up at its last two major tournaments, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and the 2016 Copa América Centenario.

In Russia this summer, Messi will captain an Argentina team that also includes the former Barça player Javier Mascherano, who moved on from the Catalan club in January following seven and a half seasons.

Rakitic on Croatia's preliminary list

Croatia announced a 24-player preliminary squad for this summer's World Cup, and among those included is Barça midfieler Ivan Rakitic. Croatia faces Argentina in the group stage.
