Denis Suárez looking forward to 'exciting test' against Valencia

The FC Barcelona midfielder looks ahead to this weekend's top of the table clash at Mestalla, where there's going to a familiar face sitting on the home bench

This Thursday, Barça’s Denis Suárez was the special guest at the presentation of the first Barcelona Fun Run (the ‘Cursa Barcelona’) to raise money for cancer research.

While attending the event, the central midfielder discussed a number of topical issues, and none more so than this Sunday’s big trip to Mestalla to face second placed Valencia.

“It’s a very important game for us because it could leave us seven points clear at the top of the table” he said. “I know [Valencia manager] Marcelino very well because I played under him at Villarreal. His teams like to play on the counter, make quick transitions and are always very strong in defence.”

“They play Marcelino’s favourite 4-4-2 system. It won’t be easy because it never is down there, and they’re playing some incredible football this year.”

Taking his chances

On a more personal level, Suárez commented that “I have made good progress this year and am playing with more personality. I’m taking my chances, getting goals, giving assists and contributing to our good play.”

“Every player on the field is performing at their best and that’s what’s making the difference in comparison to last season.”

Thoughts for Berizzo

Denis also had words for Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo, who has been diagnosed with prostate adenocarcinoma. “We send him all our support” he says. "I have played alongside Yeray Alvarez who also had to beat cancer twice, and had to leave the U21 team because of a relapse. With his personal strength he was able to overcome it. Berizzo is a fighter and I’ve never had anything but admiration for him.”
