Nine Barça players among the 55 FIFA FIFPro World 2016 candidates

Jordi Alba, Gerard Piqué, Javier Mascherano, Sergio Busquets, Andrés Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic, Leo Messi, Neymar Jr and Luis Suárez are on the list

Nine FC Barcelona players feature on a list of 55 candidates of FIFA Pro World 2016. Jordi Alba, Gerard Piqué, Javier Mascherano, Sergio Busquets, Andrés Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic, Leo Messi, Neymar Jr and Luis Suárez are the Barça representatives for the awards chosen by other footballers.

Over 25,000 players from 75 countries have participated, who choose a keeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three strikers.

The rest of the candidates are:

Goalkeepers: Claudio Bravo, Gianluigi Buffon, David de Gea, Keylor Navas and Manuel Neuer.

Defenders: David Alaba, Serge Aurier, Héctor Bellerín, Jérôme Boateng, Leonardo Bonucci, Daniel Carvajal, Giorgio Chiellini, Dani Alves, David, Diego Godín, Mats Hummels, Philipp Lahm, Marcelo, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva and Raphaël Varane.

Midfielders: Xabi Alonso, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kanté, Toni Kroos, Luka Modrić, Mesut Özil, Dimitri Payet, Paul Pogba, David Silva, Marco Verratti and Arturo Vidal.

Strikers: Sergio Agüero, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Antoine Griezmann, Gonzalo Higuaín, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Müller, Alexis Sánchez and Jamie Vardy.

The eleven will be announced at ‘The Best FIFA Football Awards’ ceremony on 9 January in Zurich, Switzerland while the award for best player of 2016 and the Puskas award will also be announced. The three finalists of the latter two awards will be revealed on 2 December.
