Neymar in action against Denmark | FIFA.COM

The Brazilian Olympic team, featuring Neymar Jr and Rafinha are through to the last eight of the men’s football tournament after a convincing 4-0 defeat of Denmark at the Fonte Nova Stadium in Salvador. After drawing 0-0 with South Africa and Iraq in their first two games, the pressure was really on the home side against the Danes, but this time there were no questions asked following a fine display by the canarinha.

Two goals from Gabriel Barbosa and one each for Luan and Gabriel Jesús did the job. Captain Neymar Jr played the full ninety minutes, but for the first time in the competition, Barça’s other representative, Rafinha, watched the whole game from the bench.

Brazil will now face fellow South Americans Colombia in the quarter finals on Saturday 13 August at 3.00 am CET. The winner of that game will meet South Korea or Honduras in the semi-finals, who qualified at the expense of the last two gold medallists at the Olympics, Mexico and Argentina respectively.
