Denis Suárez dreams of winning the treble

Barça’s new signing discusses what he aims to achieve at the club as well as his past experiences that have helped him along the way

Denis Suárez recently became FC Barcelona’s first summer signing, returning to the club after two years at fellow La Liga clubs Sevilla and Villarreal respectively.

Back at the club he always dreamed of representing, Suárez spoke to Barça TV about his experiences growing up at Celta Vigo, his move abroad to Manchester City, past managers, as well as what he now aims to achieve at FC Barcelona.

Moving to Manchester City

“It was a step to playing professional football, leaving where I had always been, around the people I knew, and this step was key to be where I am now. “You learn a new language, a new culture of life, a new culture of football, a footballing style which is completely different, very physical, and in the end you learn a lot.”

From England to Barça B

“I grew up playing football in the time of Guardiola’s Barça, with the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. That team captured the attention of the whole world.

“When Barça came in for me, I didn’t even have to think about it. I wanted to come here without a doubt.”

Former Celta and Barça B boss Eusebio

“I coincided with Eusebio at Celta when I was around 14 or 15 years old, and he called me up many times to train with him. He gave me the chance to play in friendly matches and he was one of the key decisions for me to join, to have Eusebio and his coaching staff who I knew from Vigo.

“I think he is a magnificent manager, a phenomenal coach in dealing with players because he is a great guy with a big character and I get on well with him.”

The dream

“To win the Champions League, the league and the cup, to win the treble, I think it is the dream of every player who comes to Barça, and also to establish myself as an important player of the first team.”
