Sergio Busquets to extend contract with FC Barcelona

Barça's third captain made his debut with the first team on 13 September 2008

FC Barcelona and Sergio Busquets are set to renew his contract for five seasons, until 30 June 2021. The agreement will include an incentive option for a two-year extension, based on the number of appearances he makes.

The contract will have a €200 million buyout clause and will be signed in the coming days.

Sergio Busquets just finished eighth season with FC Barcelona, having become firmly established as one of the basic pillars of the team, both on and off the field. He appeared in 53 games in the 2015/16 season, under the orders of head coach Luis Enrique.

Big numbers

In his career, Busquets has played 384 official matches with the first team and has scored 12 goals. He made his debut under Pep Guardiola in the 2008/09 season, and has been racking up a stunning number of titles ever since. Overall, Busquets has won 6 La Liga titles, 3 Champions Leagues, 4 Copas del Rey, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 4 Spanish Super Cups, and 3 FIFA Club World Cups.

Busquets has also been a key part of the Spanish national team in recent years, winning the 2010 World Cup and the UEFA Euro 2012.
