Robert Fernández came across as ambitious in his official presentation as FC Barcelona technical secretary. “The aim is very clear” he told the press. “Barça must maintain its role both at home and abroad. We need to compete and win titles. There is clearly room for improvement and we’ll try to get even better.”

He was appearing alongside the vice-president for football Jordi Mestre and the director of professional sport Albert Soler to discuss the football organigram for the coming season. “I am very pleased with everything that has been done here until now” he commented. “I have been given good information on the players, which is the result of several years of work that should not go unnoticed.”

On his relationship with Luis Enrique he said that “I really got to know him two or three days after Barça won the Champions League in Berlin. I got a very positive feeling about him. We found that we think along the same lines … A technical secretary needs to have a good relationship with the coach. One of the reasons I am here is because I get on so well with him. We’d never sign a player unless we both agreed on it.”

Robert also went on to discuss the situations of a number of individual players – and here’s a name by name summary of his main comments:

Pedro Rodríguez

“His buyout clause is 30 million euros. He’s a player that has performed fantastically for Barça”

“Both the manager and I want him to stay. We don’t want to lose him but we know that this is a risky situation and we’ll have to wait. If he goes, we’ll lose a lot of things.”

Adriano Correia

“It’s a similar case to Pedro. We want him to stay and we think he’ll stay. The coach also considers him to be an important player.”

“I spoke to them in San Francisco and I get the feeling that they’ll stay. We’re working on it.”

“If they stay, there will be no more signings, although we are always open to possibilities and we’re always working for the good of the team.”

Alen Halilovic

“Halilovic is sure to go on loan to another team. We have told the player that that’s Barça’s intention. We’ll look for a loan deal where he can continue to develop as a player and come back next year. He’s a young player with a lot of quality.”

Adama Traoré

“He’s a magnificent player but due to certain circumstances he hasn’t managed to find a place in the first team. He might leave.”

Sergi Samper

“I’m sure he’ll stay in the reserve team but with chances to help out the first team.”

“Gerson is a young player with a lot of qualities and we could make a bid at any time. That’s the most important thing, that we have the possibility of signing him.”
