Jordi Alba was speaking to the club media / MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

[[DES_1]]With their team top of the table going into the final game of the Liga season and with the Copa del Rey final just over a week away, a number of Barça players have spoken to the media this week. The latest to do so was Jordi Alba, who told the club media on Thursday that “we are very excited about the climax to the season, but the game at Granada and the cup final against Sevilla are going to be two very difficult matches.”

On Saturday, Barça need a win against a team that has already managed to assure first division survival. “But I am sure they’ll still want to do their best in front of their fans” says the FCB defender. “We have a great opportunity head of us. Our fate in such an important competition as La Liga is in our own hands. We have been a very close group for many years now. We’re relaxed. Nobody wants to win this more than we do.”

It looks like the nasty run of negative results has been left well in the past. “We reacted to that really well” says Alba. “But we know we can’t afford to make any more mistakes. We have to go out strong against Granada. We all know what we are playing for.”

Memories and influences

On a more personal note, the player commented that Luis Enrique “employs a style that encourages full backs to move up and support the attack” and also added that “I’m fully fit after getting over a few irregular periods earlier this season.”

Jordi Alba also admitted that the Champions League is the title he has most enjoyed winning since he has been at Barça, and when asked who he looked up to most when he was young, he named Barça’s Bulgarian legend Hristo Stoichkov, “because of what he transmitted to the people from the pitch.”

Not on the wing

Jordi Alba laughed off the suggestion that he could play on the wing, as he used to when he was starting out. “If Unai Emery hadn’t decided to play me at full-back, I wouldn’t be playing for Barça today” he said. “You need to be much better than me to play on the wing for Barça!”
