Rakitici in action in Anoeta / MIGUEL RUIZ_FCB

The game against Real Sociedad marked Ivan Rakitic’s 100th official appearance for FC Barcelona, a figure that he has reached in less than two seasons since joining the club from Sevilla in the summer of 2014.

Now an essential part of Luis Enrique’s plans, the Swiss-born Croat’s official debut came when he played all 90 minutes of a 3-0 win over Elche. Five games later, he scored the first goal for his new club in a 6-0 rout of Granada, and he’d go on to score a total of four goals in his first 25 games.

Rakitic completed his first half-ton of appearances in the Copa del Rey Final against Athletic Bilbao, by which time he had participated in 42 wins, 3 draws and just 5 defeats in his first season. But his finest hour had yet to come, when he scored the opening goal in the Champions League Final against Juventus, beating Buffon after just three minutes.

In the current 2015/16 season, Rakitic scored his first brace for Barça when he came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win in Borisov. His 75th game was the Clubs World Cup semi-final against Guangzhou, and on Saturday Anoeta was the stage as the 28-year-old made it into three figures when he came on as a substitute for Sergi Roberto after 71 minutes.

In less than two years, Rakitic has collected winner’s medals in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, the European Super Cup and the Clubs World Cup. Here’s to another hundred, and plenty more titles!
