This was yet another fast-moving game, something the team is learning to use to great effect to wear down difficult opponents. From defence to attack, Barça applied constant and intense pressure, and also rapid counter attacks focused on getting the ball to the forwards as quickly as possible.

Barça have now gone 34 games without defeat, equalling the record set by Real Madrid in the 1989/90. And since 2016 began, the team has strung together 16 wins and just two draws, at Espanyol in the league and Valencia in the cup. Is there any limit to what this team is capable of achieving?

Confidence

The record has clearly powered-up Barça’s confidence. Like against Celta, Barça conceded the first goal of the match but never let that bother them. A comeback was always on the cards and that’s what we got. A winning mentality is essential for a team that’s aiming for trophies, and Luis Enrique has all he needs in that department.

The centre back’s goal against Sevilla won three points and maintained the 8-point lead on Atlético Madrid. That was Piqué’s fourth goal of the season, moving him closer to his personal best of seven scored last term. Playing a key role both in defence and attack, this was one of the finest performances of the season from the Catalan.
