Thomas Vermaelen is ready. He says he has put his injuries behind him entirely and is now focused purely on football. Against BATE Borisov, the Belgian defender could have the opportunity to officially debut in the Champions League with FC Barcelona. And he isn't scared.

"If I play tomorrow it will be a very special game. Of course it was disappointing for me when I was injured while in good form, but now I feel good and I'm not afraid of injuring myself again."

Here are the highlights of what Vermaelen had to say at his press conference on Tuesday:

On being one of many defenders on the team:

"It's true that there are many centre-backs, but there are many games. We need the whole squad to face the season. And, regardless of our personal characteristics, we all want the same thing and we try to play the same way."

On goals conceded this season compared with last season:

"The defence is made up of the whole team and, although it is true that in a couple of games we did not do things as well, we're working hard in training and that has helped us improve in recent games."

On Neymar:

"He is an example and is showing how decisive he is with his goals."

"He's playing very well this season. Fortunately, we have players who can make a difference and who are very good. And Neymar is one of them."

On the goalkeepers Ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo:

"Both are world-class goalkeepers and both deserve to play."
