The Barça players could celebrate once again on Sunday / VICTOR SALGADO-FCB

It’s been surprisingly common this season to see Barça concede the first goal of a game. In most cases, this would be a cause for alarm, but not where this team is concerned. Eight times at the Camp Nou and once at the Calderón, the Catalans have gone 1-0 down early doors but have confidently marched on to win the game regardless. It happened again against Sevilla on Sunday.

Here are some other statistical observations from the 2-1 win.

-Messi for free:  The Argentinian has scored three direct free kicks against Sevilla this season, and six in total, extending his career tally to 24. Messi has scored 17 goals since the new year.

-Another landmark: Luis Enrique has led his team to 34 games without defeat, thus equalling the run by Real Madrid under Leo Beenhakker in the 1988/89 season. Avoid defeat at Vallecas on Thursday, and that will be yet another national record for the club. Win the game, and that’ll be ten in a row.

-Fortress Camp Nou: Barça haven’t lost at home for 31 games, not since 21 February 2015, over a year ago, when Malaga sprung an unexpected 1-0 win. Only three of the games at the Camp Nou since then have been draws, two in the league against Deportivo and one in the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic Bilbao.

-Jordi Alba rules the left: The Catalan full back was the passing king against Sevilla, with 78 of 87 attempts finding their man, a 90% success rate, and from a variety of different positions along the left flank.

-Luis Suárez laying them on: The Uruguayan striker has made 11 league assists this season. In the five biggest European competitions, La Liga, the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1, the only player to have provided more, and by some margin, is Arsenal’s Mesut Özil (18).
