Luis Suárez is back on top of the La Liga goal scoring race. With four goals against Sporting Gijon on Saturday night, Suárez now has 34 on the season, also good enough for top spot in the race for the Golden Shoe, given to the top league scorer in Europe.

Suárez now has eight goals in his last two games after also scoring four on Wednesday night at Deportivo. Overall, he now has 53 goals in 49 games.

This is the third time Suárez has scored four goals in a game for Barça. The first was in Barça's 7–0 win in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

He now has seven hat tricks this season. He has also scored two goals in a game six other times.

Keeping a promise

After scoring his first goal of the evening, Suárez lifted his jersey to reveal a shirt in support of the fight against Phenylketonuria (PKU), thus fulfilling a pledge he made earlier in the week to the Associació Catalana de Trastorns Metabòlics, for which he sponsored the 12th edition of the Llibre Solidari del Periodisme Esportiu.
