Luis Enrique hates it when he’s right.

The FC Barcelona manager told the media on Saturday Villarreal were one of the best teams in the league and were going to be tough to beat.

“It was what we were expecting,” he said. “Very tough. Villarreal are very good and their stadium is a tough place to play.”

Nevertheless, despite watching his team let a first-half lead slip away in a 2–2 draw at El Madrigal, he was as optimistic as ever.

“The team behind us lost yesterday, and we chalked up a point,” he said. “Any time we can earn more points than the team behind us, that’s fantastic.”

FC Barcelona’s lead over Atlético Madrid — which lost to Sporting on Saturday — now stands at nine points with eight league games to play.

On Villarreal:

“They’re very good. They know what they’re going to do from the first touch and they’re tough to stop.”

On the opening minutes:

“With the way the game started I was only worried about going down a man.

On Barça’s defence:

“We were pretty good from a defensive standpoint.”

On having to make do with a draw:

“Wins and draws come when they come. Like Christmas gifts.”

On the play of Ivan Rakitic:

“He’s a very complete player. We know he can penetrate, he’s strong and has a great shot.”
