Neymar has reached 75 goals with FC Barcelona / FCB

On Wednesday night at Camp Nou, FC Barcelona came through when they needed to. Down a goal early and just one more away from a possible elimination from the Copa del Rey, the team flourished late with three second-half goals to bury Athletic Club Bilbao and advance to the semi-finals for the sixth straight season.

Barça won the game 3–1, going through to the last four by a 5–2 aggregate score.

Here’s a look at the some of the more interesting numbers surrounding the clash:

FCB had the upper hand in most statistical categories. As a team, Barça bested Athletic in total attacks (167–141), total shots (18–12), shots on goal (9–3), ball recoveries (71–69), and fouls drawn (18–10). Athletic, nevertheless, did have more crosses into the opposing team’s penalty areas (32–14).

FC Barcelona, as a team, almost doubled up Athletic in the passing game. The Catalans completed a whopping 486 of their 592 pass attempts (82%) while the Basques completed 208 of 321 (65%).

The number one passing combination of the evening for either team was that of Barça’s Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic, who exchanged 38 passes while participating together on 29 plays. By contrast, Athletic Club’s best pair were Iñigo Lekue and Iñaki Williams, which combined for just 14 passes.

FC Barcelona striker Luis Suárez, who tied the game at 1–1 with a goal in the 53rd minute, is the overall leader on the team with 30 goals across all competitions this season

Luis Enrique continued his undefeated run as Barça coach in the Copa del Rey. He has 14 wins and single draw, which came at Villanovense in the first leg of this year's last 32.

As always, the trident made a huge difference in the game. Suárez and Neymar both scored, while Lionel Messi had an assist. Curiously, and as a result of Athletic’s relentless pressure, the trident also led the team with 40 turnovers — 16 for Messi, 13 for Neymar and 11 for Suárez — as well as with 13 fouls drawn (Neymar 9, Messi 2, Suárez 2).

Ter Stegen was once again outstanding with his feet, completing 32 of his 36 pass attempts:

Dani Alves completed 62 of 75 attempted passes (83%) to lead Barça. He was followed by Piqué (61/70, 87%), and Rakitic (49/61, 80%). 

Javier Mascherano, Gerard Piqué and Dani Alves were the evenings defensive stalwarts. Together hey recovered 33 balls — 12 for Mascherano, 11 for Piqué and 10 for Alves. Athletic’s Mikel Balenziaga was the only Basque player to reach double digits, with 12. Here are Mascherano's:
