Rakitic celebrated his 50th appearance for Barça with a goal / MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

FC Barcelona thrashed Athletic Club 6-0 in a stunning start to the second half of the season on Sunday night. Rakitic celebrated yet another landmark with another goal, Messi was able to present his fifth Ballon d’Or trophy to the fans and top the evening by scoring the first goal, while Suárez and Neymar both excelled in a terrific all-round performance that we can now analyse in a little more depth.

Ivan Rakitic played his 50th game in a Barça shirt and it was a great one for the Croat, who had an 86% pass rate as one of the key playmakers, and also scored the fifth of Barça’s goals.

Javier Mascherano won the most balls off Athletic, 17, and also led in clearances with 19. The centre back had a 90% completed pass rate.

Neymar also shone with 110 interventions, one goal and two assists. He also made five solo runs, all of which came off.
