Andrés Iniesta takes on Cristiano Ronaldo the last time Real Madrid visited the Camp Nou / VICTOR SALGADO - FCB

Eto’o, Gio van Bronckhorst and Ronaldinho scored the goals against Real Madrid on a magnificent November night at the Camp Nou in the 2004/05 season. The game ended 3-0 to Barça, and during the second half Andrés Iniesta came on as s substitute to play in his first ever Clásico. Eleven years and one day later, he’ll be appearing in his 32nd game against the old rival. Twenty of his Clásicos to date have been in La Liga, while he’s also featured in six in the Copa del Rey, one in the Champions League and four in the Spanish Super Cup.

Memorable wins

Iniesta’s record against Real Madrid amounts to 13 wins, 8 draws and 10 defeats. The two most memorable of those were, undoubtedly, the spectacular 6-2 win at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2008/09 and the 5-0 at the Camp Nou in 2010/11. There was also the 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, a result that saw Barça through to the final at Wembley.

Iniesta has scored twice against Real Madrid, and both times in games that Barça went on to win. His first was in the 2012/13 Spanish Super Cup, a subtle chip over the head of Iker Casillas. And the second came in the dramatic 4-3 win at the Bernabéu in the 2013/14 league season.

Xavi holds record

Of the current squad, Leo Messi has played the second highest number of Clásicos, a total of 30. But the Barça player with the all-time record for games against Real Madrid is Xavi Hernández, who appeared in the fixture a staggering 42 times, winning 17, drawing 12 and losing 13 in his eighteen seasons as a first team player. Xavi scored a total of five goals in those games.
