Xavi upbeat about performances

The Barça captain beleieves "we have a team to fight for all three titles" "I am fighting to be an important part of the team. I'll be there when the boss needs me"

At a promotional event in Barcelona on Thursday lunchtime, Barça legend Xavi Hernadez was optimistic and upbeat about the team’s progress this season under Luis Enrique, explaining: “we are doing well, in general this is a good moment for us, we are taking on what the coach is asking of us and there’s a good feeling”.

The Barça captain also reckons the squad is “capable of fighting for all three titles”, whilst insisting “we have to be cautious, but our league position speaks for itself and we are working well”. The Catalan midfielder has played less of a central role in the team so far this season, but he made it clear: “I’m ready for the boss, whenever he needs me. It’s important that I stay clear of injuries, as I want to be fit to play. I missed part of the pre-season with a knock, but I’ve been getting back up to the squad’s level and I’ve felt fine when I have played. I am fighting to be an important part of the team and I just want to show that I have a place out there. This is going to be a tough league campaign, just as it was last season”.

Competition for places

Luis Enrique’s insistence on rotation has highlighted the competition for places in the team, but Xavi sees that as a plus for the squad: “everyone is useful and everyone has to be ready to play. It’s a good way to get us all used to the coach’s new ideas and I think we are all feeling more comfortable in attack and defence with each game we play”.

Xavi also commented that Leo Messi: “is looking well prepared and happy. He remains a fundamentally important part of the team. He’s scoring and making assists because after all, he is the best player in the world”.
