Barça captain Xavi Hernández spoke to the media after the game to express his happiness for the victory over Sevilla as well as Leo Messi's newest record. Xavi said: “We're happy about everything, for Leo, it's an incredible record, historic, and he deserves it as a person and as a player."

Xavi said Barça played a complete game. "We looked good in all facets and I think it was one of our best games."

But when asked about Messi, Xavi deferred to the words of his manager, but added: "Leo's happy to be here and we've seen it once again. When Messi's happy, Barça's happy."

Declarations from other players:

Jordi Alba:

“This was our most complete match so far. We did it all for 90 minutes."

“Their goal was a fluke. I tried to get out of the way, but it happened too fast."

“The wingbacks have more freedom to move up."

“Throwing Messi up in the air was totally unplanned."

“I think we're good. We love Messi, but I think some people that are not in the Club want to hurt him."

Busquets:

“We've celebrated a lot these last few years, but this one really was deserving. It was completely spontaneous."

“It's normal that Rakitic didn't want to celebrate his goal, that was his old team, and he's still fond of them."

"I think it was a great win because this was a really good team we beat and they have good players."
