Xavi Hernández draws the curtain on his time as a player at FC Barcelona and cements his place as a true legend in the Club’s long and distinguished history. With 764 games under his belt, nobody else has played as many games in the Barça shirt as the man from Terrassa, just outside Barcelona. Who would have thought it when he made his debut back in 1998 in the Spanish Super Cup.

  1. 18 August 1998. The day that Louis Van Gaal handed him his debut in the first team. Xavi repaid him with goal away at Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup.

  2. 20 December 1998. An exceptional goal from Xavi away at Valladolid gave Barça an important win. The blaugranes kick started their league campaign and just a few months later they were proclaimed league champions.

  3. 25 April 2004. With five minutes to go in the Bernabéu against Real Madrid the score stood at 1-1. Xavi scores with a great volley after a wonderful pass from Ronaldinho to give Frank Rijkaard’s Barça side a 2-1 win and another moment to remember for blaugrana fans.

  4. 2 December 2005. Xavi sustains a serious knee injury in training which keeps him out for a total of five months. He returns just in time to be part of the squad for the Champions League victory over Arsenal in Paris.

  5. 29 June 2008. He is named player of the tournament in the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland where Spain win the trophy for the second time.

  6. 2 May 2009. His free kick is headed home by Carles Puyol in the legendary 6-2 win in the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid.

  7. 13 May 2009. His goal from a free kick rounds off Barça’s 4-1 win in the Spanish Cup final against Athletic Bilbao in Valencia. That victory brought the first trophy of the Pep Guardiola era.

  8. 27 May 2009. Barça lift their third Champions League trophy in Rome. For Xavi it is the first he is involved in out on the field and his performance is rewarded with a man of the match award in the win over Manchester United.

  9. 19 December 2009. Barça are proclaimed World Club Cup Champions after beating Estudiantes in Abu Dhabi. Xavi is awarded the Bronze Ball for the tournament.

  10. He wins the World Cup with Spain in South Africa. Xavi’s performances gain widespread praise and he is included in the tournament’s best XI.

  11. 29 November 2010. Xavi scores the first goal in Barça’s 5-0 clásico win over Real Madrid at Camp Nou.

  12. 2 January 2011. In the 2-1 victory over Levante, Xavi equals Migueli’s record of 549 games with the first team.

  13. 10 January 2011. Leo Messi receives the Ballon d’Or with Andrés Iniesta and Xavi finishing in second and third place, respectively.

  14. 26 October 2013. In a 2-1 victory for Barça against Real Madrid, Xavi becomes the player to have featured in most league clásicos with 26, placing one ahead of Migueli and Carles Puyol.

  15. 16 January 2014. He reaches 700 games in official competition in a Barça shirt. The landmark comes about in a Spanish Cup game away at Getafe.

  16. 25 April 2015. In a 2-0 victory away at Espanyol, Xavi makes his appearance number 500 in the league.

  17. 17 May 2015. He wins his eighth league title with the 1-0 away win in the Vicente Calderón against Atlético Madrid.
