Messi celebrating in Rome / MIGUEL RUIZ-FCB

The Champions League final in Berlin will be Barça’s fourth in the last ten years. After claiming the trophy at Wembley in 1992, the blaugranes repeated that success in Paris in 2006, in Rome in 2009 and once again at Wembley in 2011. We take the chance to look back at those four victorious Champions League finals won by FC Barcelona.

1991/92: Barça ended their jinx in Europe’s top club competition in London. A legendary strike from Ronaldo Koeman in extra time was enough to secure victory over Sampdoria in the final. The goal came in the 111th minute and after defeats in the final in 1961 and in 1986, the blaugranes finally were able to proclaim themselves Champions of Europe.

2005/06: Goals from Eto’o and Belletti in the final few minutes of the game gave Barça their second Champions League title under the fain in the Saint Denis stadium in Paris against Arsenal. The team coached by Frank Rijkaard played most the game against 10 men following the early red card for Jens Lehmann, nevertheless, they had to come from behind after Sol Campbell put Arsenal ahead in the first half.

Pep Guardiola and his team rounded a perfect season in Rome. Goals from Eto’o and Messi saw off a Manchester United side who were looking to retain the trophy in Italy. After claiming the Cup and the League, Barça recorded an historic treble with their third victory in the Champions League

2010/11: Once again Manchester United were the opponents in the final, this time at Wembley Stadium. Pedro put Barça ahead but Rooney leveled things up with the game still in the first half. After the break goals from Messi and Villa reflected Barça’s superiority and FC Barcelona were able to claim their fourth success in the competition.
