Pep Guardiola returns to Camp Nou as Bayern coach / GERMÁN PARGA - FCB

The game on Wednesday between Barça and Bayern Munich will be special for many reasons, one of them being the return to Camp Nou of Josep Guardiola. The man who was blaugrana coach for four seasons is now back in his current capacity of Bayern Munich coach. Guardiola asked for understanding given the magnitude of the match and its importance to him: “You have to understand that for me it is not a normal game. Barça was my home for 30 years but now I am Bayern coach and I am here for a game. It’s my job and I have to do it as well as possible.”

The coach of the Bavarian side insisted that the game would not be any sort of tribute, instead he said he was here “to put in a good performance with Bayern.” A return to Camp Nou was always on the cards according to the former Barça player: “It’s inevitable that I remember things when I sit down here in the press room, but I know coaching a big club like Bayern that it would end up happening. The first time is always special.” He continued that “when you are focused on your work you don’t think about it.”

Concentrating more on what goes on out there on the field, Pep Guardiola highlighted the talent that Barça have brought together, above all going forward. “There is no defensive system to control talent,” he said. Focusing on Messi he added: “You can’t stop Messi. Seeing how he is, we can only try to stop him getting the ball.”

More declarations from Pep Guardiola below:

“Nobody has had more of the ball than Barça in recent years in the Champions League. In Germany and in Europe up to now we usually have more of the ball but at Camp Nou it will be much more difficult.”

“Without scoring in the first leg, it will be difficult to win in Munich and get to the final. It’s impossible just to defend.”

“If we had not overcome having players missing we would not have made it to the semi-finals, nor would we have won the German League. I have not complained about players missing and neither will it be an excuse.”

Lewandowski has trained, he will train today and I’ll speak to him. I need players at 100%, if he is right then he will play.”

“Thiago is really happy to be back. Both of us are who we are because we were here. Now he is getting back into form after injury and his character will help us in the tie.”
