Messi, Neymar, Suárez and Pedro all scored at San Mamés / MIGUEL RUIZ-FCB

The 5-2 win in Bilbao on Sunday night was Barça’s first at the new San Mamés stadium. The game produced a number of interesting stats, and here’s a review of some of the most outstanding:

  • The win was the first for FC Barcelona at Athletic’s new stadium, and Leo Messi’s goal was also the first.
  • Barça scored five goals on the road for the third time this season. The other six wins by that many or more were all at the Camp Nou.
  • Levante (0-5), Granada (6-0), Sevilla (5-1), Espanyol (5-1), Huesca (8-1), Cordoba (5-0), Elche (5-0 and 0-6) and Athletic Club (2-5) have all been on the receiving end of five or more Barça goals this term.
  • Barça have now passed the one hundred goal mark this season, and are now on 102, of which 62 have come in La Liga, 25 in the Cup and 15 in the Champions League.
  • This was the fourth time that Messi, Neymar and Suárez all scored in the same game. The trio also found the net against Paris Saint Germain (3-1) in the Champions League, Elche (5-0) in the Cup and Atlético Madrid (3-1) in La Liga.
  • Messi and Neymar have both scored in 13 games this season.
  • Pedro’s 84th minute goal meant this was the second time that four different FCB strikers were on target in the same game. The same thing happened at Levante, when Neymar, Pedro, Sandro and Messi all scored.
  • De Marcos provided Barça with their third own goal of the campaign. Sidnei (Deportivo) in La Liga and Miranda (Atlético) in the Cup also put the ball in their own net.
  • This was the fourth time FC Barcelona have scored five or more goals away to Athletic. They did the same in 1935, 1940 and 1991.
  • This was the second time that Luis Enrique started with Bravo, Alves, Piqué, Mathieu, Alba, Sergio, Xavi, Rakitic, Neymar, Messi and Suárez. He used the same team for the 5-1 defeat of Sevilla.
  • Mathieu was back after a six-game absence.  His last appearance was in the 4-0 cup win at Elche, when he scored from a free kick.

Jordi Alba made the most passes for FCB on Sunday night, 114, with Sergio Busquets second with 243 fewer. Here’s a look at Alba’s complete passing record on Sunday night.
