[[DES_1]] Leo Messi has scored back-to-back hat-tricks this week. In doing so, he broke Zarra’s all-time goalscoring record in La Liga in the 5-1 win over Sevilla at the Camp Nou, and as if that wasn’t already enough, on Tuesday in Cyprus he overtook Raúl to set a new record for goals in the Champions League.

Hat-trick at Mestalla

And on Sunday, he’ll be travelling to a place where scoring goals would be nothing new to him. The last time Barça were in Valencia, Messi hit the net three times in just 41 minutes to put his team well in command. Valencia managed to pull two goals back later on in the game, but Leo’s hat-trick eventually proved enough to secure three crucial points for the Catalans.

Happy hunting ground

Messi and Mestalla seem to work well together. Aside from the three scored last year, the Argentinian found the target in three of his four visits before that.  His goals helped earn the team draws in 2009/10 (2-2) and 2012/13 (1-1), and in the 2010/11 season, Messi claimed the only goal of the game to secure three points that would prove vital in the run-in to the club’s third consecutive league title.

Second fastest hat-trick

Leo Messi’s trio of goals scored in 41 minutes of last season’s game at Mestalla was the second fastest of his career. His quickest hat-trick of all was achieved against Mallorca in October 2011 at the Camp Nou. It took the Argentinian just 30 minutes to get three past the islanders in what eventually turned out to be a 5-0 victory.
