[[DES_1]]The game in Mestalla for Barça defender Jérémy Mathieu will be a return to the ground that was his home stadium during the last five seasons: “It’s a special game for me but I won’t play any differently. It’s always nice to play at Mestalla, I was there for many years” added Mathieu before continuing: “I don’t know how they will receive me – I believe I did myself justice there.” He added: “Now I am 100% focused on Barça.”

Return to form

After recording two big wins in their last two matches, the summer signing is confident ahead of the team’s trip to the Mestalla to take on Valencia: “We have had a difficult time but I think we have played really well in the last two games and we go to Valencia with the idea of continuing in the same vein.” Furthermore, the Frenchman outlined the importance of the league encounter against his former club: “It’s decisive because we have to pick up three points to keep up there against a rival who are right behind us. We are going to Valencia to take all three points.”

Support for Vermaelen

Mathieu had words of support for Thomas Vermaelen who will have surgery next Tuesday and could miss a large part of the remaining season: “It’s true it’s difficult for him and for the squad. Now there are three centre backs and he will be out for a while.”

Leo Messi comes into the game in Mestalla on the back of two successive hat-tricks, one in the league and one in the Champions League. Mathieu sees the Argentine’s future as blaugrana: “I think Messi will end his career at FC Barcelona because he is a legend and he has spent his entire career here. I hope for the club and for our sakes that he stays here.”
