Moments after Barça’s victory over Real Madrid at Camp Nou, Javier Mascherano tried to temper the enthusiasm of those who believe that the league is already won. "There’s a long way to go, especially considering that we also have the Champions League." He warned that "it would be a mistake to take our foot off the gas." For Mascherano, "It was a crazy match,” especially in the first half. After the break, Barça "made some adjustments that really ended benefiting the team."

More than possession

When asked about how the team played Mascherano said, "This club has always been characterised by a model that we respect, because that's what people like. The game has many phases, it’s not just about possession; it’s also about creating pressure and knowing when to suffer and when to strategise."

Ivan Rakitic

"We haven’t won anything yet. Now we can enjoy the win a bit but we’re aware that there’s a lot more to do."

"Three points against Madrid is always special. It was great for our fans.”

"We started the game very well and we could have made it 2–0. But this is football, and it’s unpredictable.”

" Now comes the hardest part; the decisive stages of the Champions League and the League."

"A mosaic like this is awesome. I want to thank the fans because today they were the 12th man. The victory is also theirs."

Jérémy Mathieu

“I’m really thrilled for being able to score and help the team win the game.”

“We’re four points up now and we control our own destiny.”

Claudio Bravo

"The atmosphere was incredible. I’m pleased with how we played and the three points, which are vital for the league.”

"I enjoy everything about the Clásico: warming up when we took the field, the mosaic, all the way to the end of the match."

"I'm happy with my performance, but as I always say, that’s why there are goalkeepers. We were a bit worn down from the City match.”

"The situation is excellent, but we must not relax and have to keep looking at the short term, which is always the next game. Now we have to work harder and concentrate more than ever."

Team have off on Monday

Once the game ended, the coaching staff announced that Monday will be an off day and the team will return to training on Tuesday so they players have a chance to savour the win over Real Madrid.
