Rakitic, Mascherano and Ter Stegen facing the media / MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

In the second set of press conferences in the Club’s Open Media Day ahead of Saturday’s Champions League Final, Javier Mascherano, Ivan Rakitic and Ter Stegen all stressed the difficulty of the task ahead of the team as they bid to crown their season with another Treble. Javier Mascherano explained: “Nobody is invincible, that’s a word that just doesn’t exist in football. It would be very wrong if we thought we couldn’t lose the final”. Ivan Rakitic, who like Ter Stegen is heading into his first Champions League Final, echoed the Argentinean, insisting: “We know the quality that Juventus have and we know we have to match their intensity”, whilst the German keeper admitted: “We know we have to play our very best game because we are up against a hard-working team who’ll not be giving anything away”

Below are more quotes from Javier Mascherano, Ivan Rakitic and Marc-André ter Stegen at this morning’s press conference:

Mascherano

“We are up against a side who are also bidding for a Treble, but we will do our utmost to ensure the title doesn’t get away from us. This is a chance to make FC Barcelona history”.

“We will be preparing the final just like we have the other 59 games we’ve played this season. The fans’ euphoria isn’t affecting us, we can control our emotions and we know that just getting this far doesn’t guarantee anything”.

“It’s always a great feeling to win any title, but it’s even more so with the Champions League, which has a special prestige. Let’s hope that we all take this big step in our careers and win on Saturday”.

“There are moments when Messi has the ball and what happens next is only down to him, no matter what his opponents do”.

Rakitic

“We are coming into the game in the best of form. It could be a very special day, but we have to prepare the match like any other”.

Ter Stegen

“We have had a great season in defence, we’ve done well in every aspect because we have stayed focussed all through the game”.

“This is a great opportunity for me personally and of course, for the whole team. We have to be proud of the whole season and now finish it off in the best possible way”.

“I really enjoy watching Messi score, but it doesn’t matter who is key to winning, just as long as we lift the trophy”.

“Buffon is a great keeper and there is nothing I can say about him that hasn’t already been said. He’s having one of his best seasons and I know it’s a great chance for him to win the Champions League, but I want to win it too!”
