Following the recent break in domestic action,  Javier Mascherano has been the first blaugrana to set foot in the in the press room at the Ciutat Esportiva. The man known as ‘El Jefecito’ in Spanish (the little boss), appeared alongside his Barça team mate Leo Messi whilst on international duty for Argentina and Mascherano was clear on the record breaking striker’s current situation. “I see him happy and content to be playing here. He is in good form,” he assured the gathered press.

The Argentine also touched on Barça’s season so far and on where he would like it to go “We know that this month we have three objectives. It’s an important month, we have to try to win everything to end the first half of the season on a high.”

It's an important month, we have to try to win every game

The first of those challenges will be against Sevilla this Saturday at Camp Nou. According to the Argentine international, “we have to go game by game, picking up wins.” He continued: “Now the most important thing is Sevilla. They are a good side, doing well and they knew what they want to do with a coach who wants to play good football.”

At the same time Mascherano recognized that their most recent victory in the league came at the right time after defeats against Celta and in the Clásico. “The win in Almería allowed us to go off on the international break knowing we had won but that we also had to improve.” He added: “Defeats always give rise to doubts and negativity. Winning is a confirmation of confidence and of how you are feeling. For that reason it was important to win in Holland [against Ajax] and in Almería.”
