Luis Enrique says Atlético match is a final

The blaugrana skipper is eager to wrap up the La Liga title on Sunday at the Vicente Calderón

In his weekly press conference prior to the weekend's Liga match, this one being the second to last of the season and one in which Barça win the championship at Atlético Madrid, head coach Luis Enrique did not hide his desire to finish the job as soon as possible. "It is final, gives us the opportunity to win a league title," he said, before adding, "Atlético Madrid are playing for third place. It’ll be an open and interesting match.”

When asked about his team's approach this weekend he said dryly, “We'll approach this match like any other, except this time...we have the chance to secure the league title,” he said, before warning, “At the Calderón, if you lack intensity, it's tough to win. It is the first game where we'll be able to win the title. That’s a huge motivation."

Here are some of the highlights of what Luis Enrique had to say:

One step from glory

"We can do something difficult that's only been done once in the Club’s history. We have to play three great matches."

"We are aware that we need to play intense football until the end of the season in order to win these titles.”

Luis Suárez's physical condition

“He's much better, but we'll see how he is tomorrow before deciding."

Precedents with Atlético

“The three prior games are good for evaluating and analysing. We won those matches because we played three very good games. But we know they're tough to beat."

Last year

“I don't see anyone interested in revenge. Atlético deserved the title last year because they had a spectacular season."

The staff

“I surround myself with the best collaborators. The more the work is more spread out, the more things we can do. I'm extremely happy with them."
