Luis Enrique / MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

Celta v Barça on Sunday at 9.00pm CET will be a special day for several of the protagonists. For Sergi Gómez, Andreu Fontàs, Carles Planas and Nolito it will be the chance to welcome old friends from their playing days in the Catalan capital, and for Luis Enrique, it’s going to be an emotional return to Balaídos, where he managed Celta last season. It’s a venue he was already familiar with from his days as a player, and he scored for Barça at the Galicians’ stadium in the 1997/98 season.

The current FCB manager had a fine year in charge of the sky blues. The team gradually edged their way up the first division table, eventually finishing on 49 points after 14 wins, 7 draws and 17 defeats. One of the surprise packages of the campaign, Celta ended up tied on points with Valencia.

As Barça player, Luis Enrique played six games away to Celta, five as a starter, from 1996/97 to 2003/04. In the second of those seasons, 1997/98, he found the target, but his goal ultimately served for nothing in a 3-1 defeat for the visitors.
