Luis Enrique appeared in a press conference just moments after learning that FC Barcelona will be facing Manchester City in the last sixteen of the Champions League. He described the team managed by Manuel Pellegrini as “a tough opponent, in principle one of the hardest we could have faced and once of the main candidates for the title.”Manchester City one of the hardest opponents we could have facedBut he didn’t want to discuss the game in too much detail, for he knows that a lot can change between now and February. “But I am sure it’ll be a very hard match” he said. “The important thing in games like these is for us to be in good condition. If we’re on form, we are good enough to cope with any competition … I always think positively, and I know we are quite capable of getting through the round against Manchester City.”

The FCB manager is obviously aware of the strong potential in the City squad, and was asked whether he’d rate Kun Agüero as one of the best players in the world. “He’s probably up there in the top ten or so players” was the reply. “But for me the number one is Leo Messi. Everyone else comes after him.”

Leo Messi is the number one. Everyone else comes after himHe was asked to say a few words about the defeat to Getafe, now that he has had a couple of days to reflect on the result. “The four point gap between us and the leaders is by no means definitive” he said. “We don’t need to change anything. If we play attractive but effective football, then we’re always going to have a better chance of winning games. But that doesn’t mean that every game is going to go the way you want … I just hope that the team can keep developing and improving. I like the attitude of my players.”

He was also asked to comment on what kind of line-up he plans to field on Tuesday night against Huesca, but as usual he preferred not to give away any details until he has spoken to his players. However, he did reveal that Neymar is still having trouble with his left ankle and will play no part in the match.
