Marc Bartra is in his third year with the first team and to date has made ten appearances, five in the league, four in the Champions League and one in the cup. “It’s been a positive season so far” he told the press on Friday. “I’m getting games, which is what we players want. I’m improving with every one. I’m tactically better and that’s good and important”.

And one of the main reasons for that progress is Luis Enrique, who he claims “is bringing the best out in me. He connects with all of us.” Bartra had already worked under the Asturian when he was at Barça B, and comments that “he’s helping me to settle in and get focused.” He adds that playing at right back is no problem for him as he often fitted into that role when playing for the reserves.

Turning to Sunday’s derby, a fixture Bartra is very familiar with after playing Espanyol several times at different age levels, he says that “these are always very special games. Since I was very young, they were the team to beat.” And after that there’s a massive European fixture against PSG. “Of course we are especially excited about games like these” says the defender. “They are tests that make you stronger if you win them.”
