In the pre-game press conference ahead of Barça’s last fixture of 2014 against Córdoba in the league at Camp Nou, coach Luis Enrique gave his summary of how the calendar year has gone for him on a personal level: “It has been a brilliant year, so good. I have enjoyed being able to coach at Celta and I have come home. That is Disneyland, paradise.”

With regards to Saturday’s opponents in the blaugranes’ final game of the year, the Asturian explained his idea of what kind of contest it will be: “We have prepared for the game as we always do. The majority of matches have the similar characteristics with our opponents sitting back and waiting to hit us on the counter.” The Barça coach was clear on what his side have to do: “We have to be attentive and effective. We will try to attack with purpose and not give our opponents any chances.”

Despite the fact that Córdoba come into this game bottom of the table, Luis Enrique was taking anything for granted. He pointed out that under former coach, ex-blaugrana Albert Ferrer, “they deserved to have won the odd game,” and now with Miroslav Djukic as coach, “they won in Bilbao.” The Barça coach added, “they can hurt us on the counter with Ghilas and wide players like Fidel and Borja.”

Goodbye to 2014

With the game against Córdoba bringing the year to an end for the first team, the former Barça player pointed to challenges for 2015: “We have to improve many things, that’s plain from the league table.” He was referring to “aspects of the collective play”. “We are working on it,” he reassured the press at the Ciutat Esportiva. Nevertheless, he also preached caution: “We can’t get out the magic wand and solve everything.”

With regards to the Christmas and New Year break, the coach revealed that the players “will have planned training to do”, but at the same time he wants them to “be with their families and switch off a little bit. We need them fresh both physically and mentally,” concluded the man in his first season in charge of the first team.
