Life out on loan

Life out on loan

We take a look at the five Club stars on loan to other clubs for the season

Such is the strength of the Barça squad that no fewer than five top players are spending the season out on loan to different European clubs.  Cristian Tello has crossed the Iberian peninsula to join up with FC Oporto; Alex Song, has been welcomed by Premier League West Ham United; Ibrahim Afellay has gone to Greek legends Olympiakos while Denis Suárez and Gerard Deulofeu remain in La Liga with Sevilla CF.

Tello, who made his Barça first team debut in 2011, has had the unluckiest start to the campaign, picking up an injury in the second league match of the season and missing out on Porto’s Champions League qualifier against Lille.

Meanwhile, Afellay is currently working at the orders of former Real Madrid star Michel.  He made a winning league debut against Niki Volos, scoring the third and decisive goal.

Good sensations

Denis Suárez enjoyed a full and productive pre-season with Sevilla including the European Super Cup against Real Madrid.  He’s been involved in both league matches and already chalked up one goal assist.  “I’ve tried to compete and give my best.  So far you can’t fault me for effort”.  Teammate Gerard Deulofeu spent much of the closed season with Barça and has so far made just the one league appearance.

Finally, Cameroon international Alex Song joined Premier League outfit West Ham United at the last gasp and has not yet been able to play.  He looks set to make his debut for the London club after the international break.
