Seconds after the final whistle, Sergio Busquets offered his analysis: “We were down a goal early, which really hurt us." Despite the disappointing loss to a Málaga side hunkered down on defence, Busquets feels the team are doing well. "We just couldn't get that key pass when we needed it," he lamented.

He continued to explain that Málaga's style gave Barça free movement down the sidelines but that too many offside calls kept them from creating danger. He expressed his teammates' disappointment in not being able to provisionally move to the top of the league table. "Losing at home is big," he said, while insisting that the team were already focused on Tuesday's UEFA Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City.

Barça keeper Claudio Bravo was today's postgame guest on Barça TV's El Marcador, where he tried to keep an even keel. "I hope this misstep helps make us stronger," Bravo said optimistically.

Player reaction after 0-1 against Málaga by fcbarcelona

Jordi Alba

“We lose as a team. The play with Alves was just one of those things. That's it."

“Dani's handling it like a true professional. The same thing happened to mi at Anoeta. It happens to everyone."

“We're still confident. We're not going to use it as an excuse going into the match with Manchester City."

"Málaga played their game and I just want to congratulate them on how well they played."

Gerard Piqué

“Let's not think twice here because we have one of the biggest games of the year coming up on Tuesday and we don't want today's loss to affect us moving forward."

Manchester City will come right at us and that should allow us to counterattack."

“That's football. You win a bunch in a row and eventually you have to lose. We don't enjoy losing but we're still alive in all three competitions."
