Ready to go: Luis Suárez helped Barça to an important win at the Camp Nou / MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

On Wednesday night, Barça and Villarreal meet in a rematch of a game they already played just nine days ago. On Sunday 1 February, Barça won 3-2 in a dramatic league fixture, and now the same sides will go at each other once again, but under very different circumstances. This time it’s a Spanish Cup semi final first leg, kicking off in the Camp Nou at 8.00pm CET..

Both teams went into the previous meeting in stunning form. Barça were chasing their eighth consecutive win in all competitions, while the ‘Yellow Submarine’ had not been beaten in sixteen games. The match lived up to its high billing, with Barça eventually winning an end-to-end encounter with goals from Neymar, Rafinha and Leo Messi.

In the build-up to the first of two legs that will decide who will go on to face Athletic Bilbao or Espanyol in the grand final, here’s a reminder of the goings-on behind the scenes before, during and after the game between Barça and Villarreal just over a week ago.
