It has been 12 years since FC Barcelona and Juventus have faced off in European competition. Nevertheless, Barça have faced teams led by current Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri eight times in the last four years, and the results are encouraging — four wins, three draws and just one defeat.

Memorable comeback

One of these matches is remembered above others — Barça’s 4–0 win over AC Milan at Camp Nou on 12 March 2013 in the second leg of the Champions League last 16. The victory helped the Catalans qualify for the quarter-finals 4–2 on aggregate after coming back from a 2–0 defeat in Milan, Allegri’s only triumph against Barça to date.

A year before, Barça and Milan played each other four times — twice in the group stage, with a 2–2 draw at Camp Nou and a 3–2 Barça win in Milan, and twice more in the quarter-finals, with a scoreless draw in Milan and a 3–1 Barça victory at Camp Nou.

Then the following season, the Champions League draw paired Allegri’s Milan and FC Barcelona for the third consecutive year. Back in the group stage, the teams drew 1–1 in Milan while Barça took the return leg 3–1 at Camp Nou.

This year Allegri — now managing Juventus — is facing Barça in Berlin. Will Barça’s string of good results continue?
