[[DES_1]] Barça kick off 2015 with a trip to Donosti to face David Moyes’ Real Sociedad on Sunday night (9.00PM CET) knowing that their record of wins at the start of a New Year has been pretty good over the last few seasons. Of the last nine games played at the start of a year, Barça have won  six and drawn the other three, with the last year to open with a defeat dating back to 2005, when they lost 3-0 at Villarreal.

Five of those last nine games were played at the Camp Nou, resulting in four wins and a draw: in 2009, Mallorca were beaten 3-1, the following year Villarreal managed a 1-1 draw and there were wins against Levante in 2011 (2-1) and Espanyol and Elche (4-0 and 4-0) in 2013 and 2014.

Good stats on the road

Starting in 2006, when they came from behind to beat Espanyol 1-2, Barça’s away record in the first game of the year has brought two draws and two wins, following up the City derby win with a 1-1 draw at Getafe in 2007 and a 0-2 win in Mallorca the following year. The last time the team started a new year on the road, it was again against Espanyol, drawing 1-1 in Cornellà-El Prat in 2012.

Good Cup start too

The new year has opened with Cup games on three occasions over the last ten seasons, with a 4-0 win over Osasuna at the Camp Nou in 2013, a 2-2 draw with Alcoyana in 2008 and a 1-3 win away to Zamora in 2006.
