Luis Suárez scores in Uruguay's 3-3 draw

The Barça striker grabbed his side's first goal in friendly draw against Costa Rica

Luis Suárez appeared for the Uruguyan national side in his home country for the first time in just under 8 months when he turned out for the ‘charrúa’ against Costa Rica in a friendly on Thursday evening. The encounter in the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo ended in a 3-3 all draw after 90 minutes with the Barça striker claiming one of Uruguay’s goals before the visitors took victory in a penalty shoot out.

In the 4th minute of the second half ‘Cebolla’ Rodríguez crossed from the left hand side and Suárez evaded his marker on the edge of the box to crash an unstoppable shot past Costa Rica keeper Keylor Navas. The blaugrana number 9 played all 90 minutes and was a constant threat for the home side.

Prior to Suárez’s great goal, Costa Rica had taken the lead through a 41st minute effort from Saborio. After the break Barça’s summer signing levelled things up only for Bryan Ruiz to put the Central American side back in front. When Giménez made it 3-1 to Costa Rica it appeared they were heading for victory but a goal from Cavani just three minutes later in the 66th minute gave Uruguay hope. In injury time at the end of the second half Venegas made the final score 3-3 and meant the match would be decided on penalties.

Luis Suárez found the net with his effort but Guzmán Pereira’s miss handed the visitors the victory in Montevideo.
