Five talking points from FC Barcelona v Getafe

Five talking points from FC Barcelona v Getafe

Absolutely everything about Tuesday's display was positive. Following the stunning 6-0 win, we pick out five key factors that spurred the team to such a marvellous result

Changed team: Luis Enrique made four changes to the side that had won 2-0 at the Power8 stadium just a few days before. He opted for a fresh back four (Bartra and Mathieu), was forced due to Alba’s suspension to field a different left-back (Adriano) and played a different piece in midfield (Xavi). Getafe, who are suffering from a string of injury woes, also played an unfamiliar starting eleven.

Masterclass from Xavi: One of those newcomers, Xavi Hernández, particularly shone this evening. He scored a delightful goal to make it 4-0 and made an average of one completed pass for every one of the 59 minutes he was on the field. The Camp Nou gave him a standing ovation as he left the pitch, and it was nothing less than he deserved.

Absolute dominance: Barça were near perfect in the first half. Not only did they put five goals past Getafe but they also held 82% of the possession. The game was only half an hour old and it was already well and truly decided.

Three cheers: Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar got 5 of the 6 goals in the game and that takes their combined tally for the season up to 102 in all competitions. They’re breaking records, and the way they are working hard not just for themselves but for each other, is nothing less than a pleasure to behold.

One step closer: Barça have won 27 out of 34 league games and are now five points clear of second placed Real Madrid, who have a game in hand against Almeria at the Bernabéu on Wednesday evening. With just four games left to play, Barça are finely poised to win back the league title.
