FC Barcelona v Sevilla: Memorable meetings

The Catalans have won 16 of the last 25 encounters between the sides, the Andalusians have won four and there have been five draws with an average of 3.2 goals a game

FC Barcelona and Sevilla are about to play in the European Super Cup for the second time. In 2006, they were the respective winners of the Champions League and what was then known as the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League). The venue that year was Monaco while this time they are off to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on August 11. Members can apply for tickets for that match on Tuesday 30 June and Wednesday 1 July 1.

More than three goals a game

From the day Sevilla won the Super Cup 3-0 in August 2006 to the present, the two sides have met 25 times (18 of those games were in La Liga, 4 in the Spanish Cup and 2 in the Spanish Super Cup). Barça have won 16 of those meetings, there have been five draws and Sevilla have been victorious four times. Barça have out-scored the Andalusians 55-26 in those games, which have produced a healthy average of 3.2 goals a match.

Only two of these games between Barça and Sevilla have ended scoreless (a cup game in 2007/08 and a Liga game in 2011/12). One of the most memorable encounters for Barça fans was the Spanish Super Cup of 2011, when the Catalans were beaten 3-1 in Andalusia but turned things around with a 4-0 win in the second leg at the Camp Nou.

Eleven games unbeaten

The Camp Nou was also witness to a 5-0 win for Barça in 2011 and a 5-1 last season led by an outstanding Messi. The Sánchez Pizjuán, meanwhile, has never been an easy place to go. Barça’s 3-2 win in the Seville stadium in 2010 was especially dramatic, as was the 2-2 draw in the season that just ended. However, Barça will be going to Georgia knowing that they have not lost to their opponents in any of the last eleven games between the sides.
