Koeman celebrating the goal against Sampdoria at Wembley 92 / FCB

Barça have met Italian sides on three occasions in their history in European finals. The first came against Sampdoria in the season 1988/89 in the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup which took place in Berne, Switzerland. Goals from Julio Salinas and López Rekarte allowed the blaugranes to overcome the Italians and claim their third victory in the competition.

Three years later Sampdoria were once again Barça’s rivals in a European final. This time it was in the European Cup final at the famous Wembley stadium. A goal from Ronald Koeman in extra time was enough to hand the blaugranes their first ever European Cup. 20 May 1992 will always be a key date in the Club’s history.

The last final against an Italian club came 21 years ago. In the 1994 European Cup final Barça came up against AC Milan. The blaugranes were thwarted in their attempts to lift a second trophy in the competition, losing 4-0 in Athens to the side coached by Fabio Capello.

Remember the 1992 final at Wembley, the first Champions League final we won. http://ow.ly/NLbFk Recorda amb nosaltres...
