Barça's 1–0 victory over Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Cup quarter-finals gives the fans a reason to be optimistic. The last time was in the 1995/96 semi-finals against Espanyol, when Barça won the second leg 3–2 in Sarrià. Here are some other curiosities surrounding this year's matchup.

Atlético Madrid have become Leo Messi's favourite victim. He has now netted 22 goals against them across all competitions.

- Oblak is the ninth Atlético keeper to be beaten by Messi.

Atlético haven't won at Camp Nou since 2006; that makes 13 straight games.

- Barça had 5 shots on goal, while Atlético only had 1.

- Both teams committed 11 fouls; they also centred the same number of balls into the penalty area.

- Barça maintained nearly 70% possession.

- Barça completed more passes—585—than the 531 they managed in their recent league match against Atlético.

- Dani Alves led the team in completed passes with 85.

- All 4 Atlético defenders totalled just 65 completed passes.

- Piqué and Mascherano both had a match-high 12 steals.
