FC Barcelona centre back Thomas Vermaelen gets medical clearance

Belgian defender green-lighted by team doctors after team's Sunday recovery session; Rafinha works out individually

Five months after injuring his right leg, FC Barcelona's Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen has received medical clearance. He underwent surgery back in December and will now be fully available for Luis Enrique in the home stretch of the season.

Vermaelen was given the medical all-clear following Sunday morning's workout at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The full squad trained, although Rafinha did so individually.

Before Sunday's session on Camp Tito Vilanova the staff took the time to congratulate Xavi Hernández, who yesterday played his 500th career game for the Club. There was a round of applause for the midfielder to kick off the team's first training session after Saturday's 2–0 Catalan derby victory over Espanyol.

The team has two league matches this week. Barça host Getafe on Tuesday at 8.00pm CET and then go on the road to face Córdoba on Saturday at 4.00pm CET.
