FC Barcelona and Athletic Club formally request Spanish Cup final at Santiago Bernabéu

The two clubs made their preferences official in a joint letter to the Spanish Football Federation

FC Barcelona and Athletic Club Bilbao want to play this year's Spanish Cup final, set for 30 May, at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid. They communicated their preferences to the Spanish Football Federation through a joint letter. The request was confirmed by Albert Soler, FC Barcelona's Director of Sporting Institutional Relations, after Friday's Champions League draw: "The Spanish Federation had received requests from some cities to host the Cup, but not from Madrid. Since both clubs wish to play the final at the Bernabéu, we made a formal request to Real Madrid and, therefore, will be waiting for an official response."

Both Clubs want to have a maximum number of tickets available so that their fans can enjoy the Cup Final live. "So far we have not considered any other option than the Bernabéu, as we await an answer from the Federation," said Soler.

According to Soler, the request made to the Federation "is now in the hands of Real Madrid," which must decide whether to accept the proposal made by the Spanish Cup finalists.
