On Wednesday, FC Barcelona are playing their eighth European fixture away to a side from the Dutch championship. To date, they have a record of two wins, three draws and two defeats.

The last trip to Holland was in last year’s Champions League, when they lost 2-1 to Ajax, the same side they’ll face this week. The only other defeat in Holland was on March 29, 1978, when PSV won 3-0 in the UEFA Cup semi-finals.

The most common result in these seven games has been draws. There have been three, one at Feyenoord in the 1974/75 European Cup (0-0), one at AZ Alkmaar in the 1977/78 UEFA Cups (1-1) and one at PSV Eindhoven in the 1997/98 UEFA Cup (2-2).

Last win in 1996

PSV Eindhoven, the Dutch side that has crossed paths with Barça the most times, was the last team that the Catalans beat in Holland. That was back on March 19, 1996, with Johan Cruyff on the bench for a 3-2 win in the UEFA Cup with goals from Zenden, Figo and Sergi. The only other Barça win was also 3-2, away to NEC Nijmegen in the second round of the 1983/84 Cup Winners Cup.
