Belletti, Maxwell, Sylvinho, Adriano and Alves

Douglas Pereira, the latest FC Barcelona signing for the 2014/15 season, will be the sixth Brazilian full-back to wear the Barça shirt this century. The new Barça defender is coming from Sao Paulo to play in a position where the five Brazilians before him have all starred.

Juliano Belletti, Sylvinho, Maxwell Scherrer, Adriano Correia and Dani Alves are his five immediate Brazilian predecessors.  These five have won a total of 50 titles for the Club, and all have excelled during their time at the Nou Camp. The first to arrive were Belletti, who signed from Villarreal, and Sylvinho, from Celta, in 2004. At Barça, Belletti will always be remembered for the goal that gave the Club its second Champions League, in 2006 in Paris. As for Sylvinho, he was in two Champions league winning squads.

Dani Alves signed in 2008, and has played 298 games in a Barça shirt. A year later Barça signed Maxwell,  from Inter Milan to strengthen the left side of defence. Then, in 2010, another Brazilian joined, Adriano Correia, signed like Alves from Seville,  and he's currently in his fifth season at the Camp Nou.

So, Douglas Pereira will become the sixth Brazilian full-back to wear the Barça shirt in recent years, and it will be a real challenge for him to equal or even improve what his predecessors have achieved at the Club.
