Douglas makes FC Barcelona debut

The Brazilian full-back started his first match for Barça, playing for 72 minutes before being substituted by Adriano

At La Rosaleda against Malaga, new signing Douglas got his first taste of playing for FC Barcelona. Luis Enrique picked him at right-back ahead of Montoya, who was dropped at the last moment, and his Brazilian compatriot Adriano.

Playing alongside Bartra, Piqué and Jordi Alba, the debutant pushed forward to support the attack on several occasions, especially in the first half. He stayed on for 18 minutes of the second half before Luis Enrique took him off just moments after he’d been yellow-carded for a challenge on Luis Alberto. He was replaced by Adriano, who thus got to play his first Liga football of the season after only playing in the Champions League match with APOEL this season.

“I have to keep working”

After the game, Douglas found time to share his impressions with the media. “I have to keep working” he admitted. “But I’m happy to have had the chance. I hope to keep working hard to help this team”.

Now that Douglas has made his debut, the only players yet to start are Vermaelen and Luis Suárez, who both got run-outs earlier on today in Barça B’s friendly with the Indonesia U19 team.
